Our Purpose

The mission of the Student Support Services Department is to facilitate the social, emotional, and academic growth of all students and to support parents and faculty in the same endeavor. Canterbury School’s Student Support Services Department offers an array of services including education, consultation, assessment, and referrals.  The program seeks to foster academic, emotional, and social growth of students by partnering with parents, faculty, staff, and the community.  Our aim is to positively impact the lives of students as they acquire the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers, and lifelong learners.

Although the entire faculty seeks to support, challenge, and enrich the lives of students and families, a unique advantage of a Canterbury education is the additional assistance provided by the Student Support Services team.  Canterbury’s Student Support Services team meets regularly and works very closely with faculty and school directors on a broad range of issues, including academic, developmental, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns.  We strive to create a strong foundation of support through:
  • Identification - of strengths and challenges
  • Assessment - gather data and conduct screening
  • Intervention - strategies, counseling, and consultation
  • Education and Prevention - programs and training
  • Self-Advocacy - increasing self-awareness
